THE COST IS TOO HIGH.
So you want to get an assessment done for your child. Maybe your pediatrician suggested you get your child tested, or they gave your child a diagnosis, but the school needs an assessment before services can be provided.
You’ve called your insurance, got a few referrals from them, and called around. In most cases when you get a call back it is to notify you that the testing you need done isn’t completed at their facility, or you need to complete some additional paperwork, or get a referral from your doctor, or jump on one foot while scratching your nose and reciting the alphabet...backwards.
The point is, you’re already stressed out about trying to get some help for your kid. Now a month of back and forth has passed before you’re finally on someone’s waitlist.
We’ve talked before about the stigma of mental health, but nowhere is this stigma more evident than in how insurance companies treat compensation for assessment services. Most insurance companies don’t even provide coverage for psychological assessments.
The uncertainty of appropriate compensation along with the significant amount of time spent completing assessments has lead to a deficit in the number of providers willing to conduct assessment, especially for children.
CALM DOWN KIDS. (CDK) was designed with these barriers in mind. We simply don’t accept insurance, thereby bypassing a lot of the headache and stress involved in seeking services.
The results of an assessment from CDK can be transformative.
Your kiddo is one of the most important people in your life. If you’re feeling hesitant, it’s most likely because you aren’t sure if this is going to work. I mean, how can a bunch of papers be transformative?
We truly believe that knowledge is power. The more you know about who your child is and what they need, the faster you can help them be successful. We guarantee to provide you with the exact resources and knowledge you need to better understand your child.
We have actual conversations with your child’s teacher and other service providers so that we can make systemic recommendations. This means that we only provide the people on your child’s team with recommendations that they are capable of carrying out.
By creating individualism in your child’s recommendations, we increase the focus on what your child needs for their symptom presentation versus generalized recommendations given for any child with the same diagnosis.
This bespoke model is unique to CDK and you won’t get it anywhere else. Sound good? Great. You’re probably still wondering what this is going to cost.
Payment plans for other companies are non-existant. You are usually expected to pay in full or are offered a 50/50 split (half upfront and another half upon completion). With the cost of assessments ranging from $1500-5000+, for most families, this is a nice chunk of change to try to pay upfront.
We wanted our services to be affordable for everyone, so we do things differently. We currently offer a starting rate of $3000.00 for a completed psychological assessment and the best part— automatic payment plans for 6 or 12 months with no impact on services rendered. You still get clear, concise results in a timely manner, without having to resort to eating ramen for 6 months.
You may feel like you can’t afford it now, but let me ask you this— what are you going to do instead? This isn’t a guilt trip, just the honest truth. You know your kid needs help, they know they need help, the school knows they need help, so what will it take for your child’s mental wellness to take priority?
Some of you may have broken out your calculators to do the math, and still feel like this is out of your price range, even with a year to pay it off. Don’t throw in the towel yet! Keep reading. There’s more magic up our sleeves.
Remember our goal at CDK is the same as yours: affordability for YOU, our customer. When your actions align with your values anything is possible. We know you value your child, so let’s flip the script. Instead of saying “I can’t afford this,” ask yourself “how can I afford this?” Don’t stress too hard over this question, because we already have the answer for you.
As part of the intake process you will have the opportunity to take part in our free online financial guidance seminar. This seminar details how to help you learn to temporarily concentrate your finances on your child’s mental health services without giving up the things you love. This seminar is based on the principles taught in Ramit Sethi’s personal finance book and website— I Will Teach You To Be Rich.
Last note: Upon completion of the assessment you will be given an invoice of services rendered which you can send to your insurance for reimbursement to off-set the cost.
We know you have several options and feel grateful you would consider us to help your family. For more information about CDK’s services please reach out to us.
