CALM DOWN KIDS supports the Santa Clara County community by using an equitable sliding scale.

At CDK, we deeply value diversity, equity, and inclusion, and we are committed to being an equal-opportunity company. Our mission is to provide care options that are equitable and accessible to everyone in our community. To ensure that both the community and our CDK clinicians are well taken care of, we have chosen to implement an equitable sliding scale for our services. This approach allows us to meet the diverse needs of our community by adjusting costs based on individual financial situations, ensuring that high-quality care is available to all, regardless of their economic status. We base our assessment of basic needs and expendable income on the Green Bottle Method developed by Alexis J. Cunningfolk, which helps us fairly distribute resources and support those who need it most.

What are the different pricing options?

True Cost

This is how much the service really costs. We charge this amount so we can earn a fair paycheck and keep offering these services sustainably.

Pay-it-Forward

This is the true cost of the service, plus a little extra for those who can easily afford to pay more. The extra money helps us offer additional lower-rate spots for your neighbors in need.

Mid-Range

This is a lower price for people who might have difficulty paying the full cost, and still meet their basic needs. If you can afford the true cost and choose this option, you are taking away a spot from someone who really needs it.

Essential

This is the lowest price for people who need help paying for therapy services. We know this price might still be hard for you. Please call us anyway, and we will connect you with a provider who can work with your needs.

How does the sliding scale work?

Using the image below determine if your situation falls into the first, second, or third bottle. If you are in the first bottle, then you should choose the True Cost or Pay-it-Forward pricing options. If your situation falls into the second bottle, then you are in the Mid-Range option. And if you are in the third bottle then you would choose the Essential pricing options. If you are still not sure, we can support you during our scheduled call.

What is the Green Bottle Method?

The Green Bottle Method of economic justice is a concept used to illustrate how resources and wealth can be distributed more fairly among people. Let's break it down in simple terms:
1. Imagine Bottles of Different Sizes: Think of everyone in society as having a green bottle. Some people have big bottles filled with lots of resources (like money, food, and opportunities), while others have small bottles with very little in them.
2. Unequal Distribution: In the real world, not everyone has the same size bottle or the same amount of resources. Some people have more than they need, while others don't have enough to get by.
3. Balancing the Bottles: The Green Bottle Method suggests that we should try to balance the bottles so that everyone has enough resources to live a good life. This means taking some resources from the big bottles (those who have more than enough) and adding them to the small bottles (those who don't have enough).
4. Fairness and Justice: The goal is to create a fairer society where everyone has what they need to thrive. It's not about making everyone's bottle exactly the same size, but about ensuring that no one is left without the basics they need to live well.
5. Practical Steps: In practice, this could mean things like higher taxes on the wealthy to fund public services, better wages for workers, and social programs that help those in need. It's about creating policies that help redistribute resources more evenly.
So, the Green Bottle Method of economic justice is a way of thinking about how we can make sure everyone has enough resources to live a decent life by balancing out the inequalities in society.
